Unerupted teeth are embedded teeth which have failed to erupt, remaining covered by bone, soft tissue or both. They are referred to as impacted teeth when the failure of eruption is caused by contact against another tooth. The most common cause of noneruption is lack of space.

Exposure of Unerupted teeth refers to the uncovering of teeth that have not moved into the mouth when they should. This is usually done in conjunction with orthodontic therapy. This enables the tooth movement to proceed more expediently. Preventing problems from developing is the best way of maintaining a healthy and esthetic environment.
